Gift Art: The Iron Butterfly- Mecha Maid

Description

This was a gift to none other than :iconkrazykrow: creator of the totally fun, sexy, and all around awesome webcomic Spinnerette. For a while now I've been meaning to do a Mecha Maid piece, and I had some fun concocting this one up. I did a little bit of research into jet engines and decided to replicate some of the cooling systems they use for Mecha Maid's power armor, as well as give a slight titanium-ish sheen. Beyond that I was mostly invoking my love of 80's anime power armor like something you'd see in Dirty Pair, Gal Force, Bubbelgum Crisis, or any sci-fi that Kenichi Sonada worked on for that matter. I also won't hesitate to admit that I was also channeling my inner :iconjohnstaton: to some extent with this one.

Since the character is said to have tons of different power armor types for whatever situation may arise, I'd like to call this one the Iron Butterfly. In my own little head-cannon she would primarily use it for speedy/energy attacks against heavier foes. The chassis would mostly consist of titanium and other light alloys (thus making the name not even remotely reflect the actual material used for the suit, but hey it sounds cool right?) to allow for quick movements, without sacrificing too much in regards to defense or strength. Getting into the stupid sci-fi-ness, I always like the idea of an ion-core engine of some sorts, and I would employ that here. Mecha Maid can do an ion charge and release all the energy for one gigantic burst, hence the extensive cooling systems in place on the armor. It's goofy and comicy for sure, but I like the idea...

If anything else I'm more disgusted with how quickly I was able to knock this artwork out as normally I'm super slow, and I did this one in about a day. While I guess I should be happy that I did something that I'm fairly proud of in a relatively short amount of time, considering how long it's taken me to fulfill my commission list, this made me do nothing short of simply wonder why I can't be this efficient on a daily basis.

Once again the area where I had the most fun was the shading, particularly with Mecha Maid's hair. Clothes, hair, and muscles are some of my favorite things to draw, and Mecha Maid has at least two out those three. Overall I'm glad that I went with the pink highlights on her as i think it really makes her figure pop off the page.

As for materials, Faber pens were used for the inks and the maid dress, while Copics and Pigment pens were used for the colors.
